Green Sports Alliance announces Paper Use Playbook at Summit in Atlanta
Among the great ideas coming out of the Green Sports Alliance Summit in Atlanta, is the Green Sports Alliance's Environmental Paper Network, and the Forest Stewardship Council released, Paper Use Playbook, sponsored by Kimberly-Clark Professional. The Paper Use Playbook is resource for professional and collegiate sports teams, leagues, and venues to improve their environmental performance related to paper use.
“We have a collective responsibility to be good stewards of the environment and responsibly source and use our resources. From ticketing, to food and beverage, to housekeeping, the sports industry has a unique opportunity to create positive impact around their paper and forest product procurement and use plans,” said Justin Zeulner, Executive Director of the Green Sports Alliance. “We are pleased to offer this resource to our members and partners and look forward to the behavior changes and purchasing policies it will influence.” This Playbook is designed to help sports and entertainment facility operations achieve efficient and responsible paper use. It provides a game plan for leadership actions for sustainability to reduce an organization’s impact on the environment and the world’s declining forests. The Playbook was designed to make developing a sustainable paper use program or policy easy. It provides information on product selection, and recommendations and case studies pertaining to source reduction and effective paper use waste management. “When you consider that every fan uses paper products every day, it becomes immediately clear that the Paper Playbook offers a huge opportunity to promote sustainability, not only in sports venues but everywhere people use forest products,” said Ben Jarrett, North American Sustainability Leader at Kimberly-Clark Professional.
