Celebrate June 21 as 'World Giraffe Day'

June 21 is World Giraffe Day, an annual event to celebrate these amazing animals, raise awareness toward the challenges that they face in the wild and create understanding about what can be done to save the species. There are only 100,000 giraffes remaining in the wild, an amount that lists them as ‘vulnerable’ to extinction, and only 32,000 Masai giraffe remaining in East Africa. According to the Giraffe Conservation Foundation (GCF), their numbers have plummeted to half in the last thirty years and that trend hasn’t abated in more recent times.

Finn + Emma’s delightful collection, from their Safari line, of giraffe inspired clothes and accessories is a great reminder that we affect one another on this planet, even with decisions about what to wear. They are a group for moms, by moms, started by Anna Schwengle in 2011, the brand not only places focus on “bountiful sustainability” but also on resonating with modern mothers who value design as well as the safety and health of their children.

Finn + Emma clothes are made from 100% G.O.T.S. (Global Organic Textile Standard) organic cotton and using only non-toxic eco-friendly dyes, so that kids can be comfortable while parents rest easy knowing they have made a safe consumer choice. Many items from their collections such as rattle buddies, pacifier holders, soft pyjamas, footies and bodysuits, the Finn + Emma Giraffe collection are not only comfortable but safe for baby and toddler wearing and use.

One may feel inclined to ask “How they are helping by shopping for organic clothes and accessories?” Synthetics and non-organic cottons contain petrochemical that have been linked to serious health issues. Chemicals can have a negative impact on the environment, the workers in the fields and factories and ultimately the wearer of the tee shirt. In addition, the production of non-organic fabrics contributes up to 20% to the world’s water pollution problems. The G.O.T.S. certification means that the fabric contains a minimum of 95% of organic fibers and all inks and dyes used must meet certain toxicity and biodegradability standards.

The longest day of the year, June 21, is an opportunity to invest time in thinking about the world we live in and the actions we can take to support the interconnectedness of the environment and all living creatures. The GCF is established as a Namibian charitable and funding institution of a public character, with the objective to raise awareness for, provide support to and secure a future for giraffe, and conserve their habitat in Africa. If one provides support to GCF you are helping to conserve the gentle, long-necked species in the wild through those efforts.

The styles from Finn + Emma are classically designed and fun, kids will love the Giraffe motif and parents can feel confident that they have made a high-quality, ecologically sound choice. If you are able to take the time on June 21, World Giraffe Day, to make a donation to or learn more about the GCF and giraffes visit their website.
