3D Mapping now available for Orange Country Convention Center
I'm there at least once a year, so it's handy to know that 3D mapping is now available for the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando.
concept3D - a 3D mapping and software company that has worked with Disney and Google, among others, has announced that Florida's Orange County Convention Center (OCCC), the second largest in the US with 7 million square feet, has launched its atlas3D map and virtual tour platform. With atlas3D, online visitors can explore the entirety of the exterior and interior spaces via VR-enabled, 360-degree navigable pano images and 3D renderings. Additionally, OCCC is the flagship user of a new application developed by concept3D, MapSpacer, that lets OCCC reps build custom event space layouts - pulling from their inventory - and include 2D and 3D renderings in cost proposals for events. MapSpacer uses a SketchUp plug-in, and taps into the existing geospatial data from the atlas3D platform. There are literally hundreds of 360-degree pano images on all floors of the convention center, from loading bays to breakout rooms. Viewers can really experience the entire convention center.
“We set out to create a new industry standard for meeting space selection and event planning, and having OCCC be the first to launch MapSpacer validates that goal,” said concept3D CEO, Gordon Boyes.
Event planners and convention center staff can use MapSpacer to shortlist meeting spaces that meet their specific criteria and explore those spaces through VR-enabled photospheres, images and 3D models. MapSpacer’s design tool includes a SketchUp(R) extension so planners and convention center staff can custom design meeting spaces, pulling from a convention center’s specific inventory of tables, chairs, equipment, etc. The plans can be viewed in either 2D or 3D fly-through models, and then submitted to convention center staff for cost proposals. “atlas3D and MapSpacer created a game-changer for how planning takes place in this industry, and it’s incredibly exciting to be the first convention center in the world to offer MapSpacer,” said, Orange County Convention Center, Executive Director, Kathie Canning. “atlas3D’s interactive map and panoramic, VR-ready virtual tours beautifully profile all that OCCC has to offer, and the platform is ideal for marketing our space as well as for promoting the many on- and off-site hotels, attractions and partners that further improve the attendee experience.”
This is one way to capture seven million sq. feet of convention space, without having to walk 4-5 miles.
